Bangs of New York

a compilation of things i own & love, lust after and think are just plain bangin'

the thing about nude lipsticks…

…is that they seem deceptively simple. i mean, they’re the ‘staple’ of your cosmetics stash right? and isn’t it usually pretty easy to find staples for other things, like your closet? or your fridge? a neutral-colored sweater, a pair of classic pumps, done and done.

but a nude shade of lipstick that won’t make you look zombie-fied or put a hi-def filter on your lip lines and any flakiness? that’s a tougher find. if i had to equate it to any other staple item, i’d say it’s akin to the elusive ‘perfect white tee.’ it can’t be too sheer, it can’t be too heavy. you just want to slip it on without a second thought and head out the door looking chic and put together any day of the week.

enter: the dior ‘nude rouge’ lipstick collection. my personal favorite? ‘swan’

subtle shade of pink? check

just the right amount of coverage? check

moisturizing? oh yes, check

an instant chic pick-me-up? double-check

so to sum up, swan is my new staple. now on to finding that perfect white tee…

falling back into the swing of things

okay, i’ve been delinquent in updating, but we’re well into fall now (and even got our first taste of winter recently…snow? really? im not yet physically or emotionally ready for this), and i’m re-committing to regular updates.

to commemorate this special occasion, my friend and i hid out in a starbucks one chilly saturday afternoon and got dorky with my new iphone case.

on the prowl no more

so a few years ago, my roommate had this gorgeous gray nail polish that i was obsessed with and mooched off of her incessantly. it was from MAC’s limited edition hello kitty collection, and it was called “on the prowl" and it was definitely rawr-worthy (sorry, couldn’t resist the awful pun. it is monday, after all). seriously, such a perfect gray creme shade.

i hate being a mooch, so i went searching for my own bottle, but of course, at that point, it was sold out EVERYwhere, except on ebay, but even being the nail polish-hoarder that i am, i couldn’t bring myself to pay 4x its original price.

so basically ever since 2009, i’ve subconsciously been trolling nail polish displays for a similar enough dupe. and finally, NARS delivered.

Galathée from the fall collection, AKA my go-to-gray at last.

i was in La Jolla this past weekend for a friend’s wedding (first time visiting!). i have to admit, east coast-lover that i am, this trip scored some maaaajor points on behalf of the west coast for me.
also, side note, there needs to be a nail polish shade that matches the water there. in all seriousness, can i nail polish that color?

i’ve been really into baseball caps lately. and snapbacks, once i learned what those were. did you know that theophilus london  designed one? maybe you did, and you got to snag one before they sold out. i, unfortunately, did not.
